Israel indicated that it planned to occupy control over swaths of southern Lebanon in what one Hezbollah official told Reuters was an “existential threat” to the Lebanese state.
While the human and economic toll from the joint US-Israeli invasion mounts and the conflict enters its fourth week, the White House’s claims of last-ditch negotiations to end the war have not been confirmed by intermediaries or the Iranian government. Iran’s UN ambassador said that at least 1,348 civilians had been killed in the country since the start of the war.
