US President Donald Trump warned Iran on Monday about increasing the intensity of attacks if the flow of oil in the Strait of Hormuz is blocked.
“If Iran does anything to stop the flow of oil in the Strait of Hormuz, it will be hit by the US TWENTY TIMES HARDER than it has been hit so far,” said the American leader on his Truth Social account.
The president added in his threat that “death, fire and fury will reign over them, but I hope and pray that this will not happen.”
Trump’s statements came after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said it attacked an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend and that the passage is closed to traffic due to the escalation of the conflict.
20% of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, located between the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. The climate of tension increased after the US sent its largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to position itself in the region.
This Monday, Trump made new comments about the immediate future of the war in Iran, saying first that it was “pretty much over” and then that he still didn’t know “how far it could go.”
Furthermore, he stated that he was considering taking full control of the Strait of Hormuz. In turn, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has conditioned “free passage” on the route to countries in the region that expel the US and Israeli ambassadors from their territories.
UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia report new attacks
The United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia reported new attacks on their territories this Tuesday (10), on the 11th day of war in the region.
The UAE Ministry of Defense reported via the social network X that its air defenses intercepted several missiles and drones coming from Iran and asked the population to “follow security instructions”.
Similarly, the Kuwaiti National Guard “successfully intercepted and shot down six drones” in the northern and southern sectors of the country, according to the state news agency.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry, in turn, urged the population to go “to the nearest safe place” and remain calm amid the latest anti-aircraft sirens that sounded in the country, without the authorities having informed, for now, about specific attacks.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense spokesman also stated that his army intercepted two drones flying towards the east of the country, three hours after Riyadh’s defenses intercepted two other unmanned aerial vehicles near Al-Kharj province.
Most Middle Eastern countries that host US military bases or delegations have been targets of Iranian attacks since February 28, when the US and Israel launched an offensive against the Islamic regime.
