The United States Central Command has released new images of attacks conducted duringOperation Epic Furyshowing bombing raids against Iranian military systems.

According to the US military, the campaign has already resulted in a sharp reduction in Iranian ballistic missile and drone launches, especially after the first 24 hours of the operations.

Among the targets hit was an air defense system located at Bushehr Air Base. Initially classified as a ballistic missile launcher, the equipment was later identified as part of the Soviet S-200 air defense system, known in the West as 5. The launcher was part of the protection network of the nuclear power plant located nearby.

The system-protected installation is the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plantone of Iran’s major nuclear power production facilities, located on the coast of the Persian Gulf. The affected system was part of a fixed air defense structure installed at the Bushehr Airbasewith radar and platforms prepared for launching long-range missiles.

Designed during the Cold War, the S-200 system was developed to protect strategic installations from aircraft operating at high altitude and long distances. Iran has maintained versions of this system for decades as part of its layered air defense network, normally positioning launchers near military bases, industrial centers and nuclear installations considered strategic.
