The bomb squad was called after authorities received several reports of a pickup truck carrying “missiles” in the Tampa Bay area of Florida (USA).
According to a statement from the Florida Highway Patrol, officers stopped a Ford Maverick that was carrying what appeared to be missiles, after receiving several calls from concerned motorists on a highway near Plant City.
Michael Nipperthe driver, allegedly told police he had bought the missiles as a construction kit on a website and planned to use them at an event. He also assured the authorities that no explosive materials were involved.
Still, the incident prompted a response from the bomb squad, according to a report from WESH. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Plant City Police Department and Plant City Fire Rescue also responded to the scene while awaiting the bomb squad.
The objects were later identified as plastic replicas used for events, and authorities confirmed there was no threat to the public. The driver was allowed to continue his journey after receiving guidance on how the items should be transported in the future to avoid further alarms.
