A sheriff in Hall County, Georgia, was arrested after his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit while driving his patrol car.

According to authorities, Gerald Couchwas arrested on charges of drunk driving at around 10:30 a.m. last Friday (27th). A breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

When questioned by colleagues, Couch said he had been drinking and “messed up everything.” He admitted drinking around 6am but claimed he had not had anything after 8am.

Authorities found two open alcoholic beverages inside Couch’s vehicle. The deputy was taken to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Jail but posted bail and was released overnight. It is not yet known whether he will be suspended from his position as sheriff.
