Armored vehicle developed by the Uralvagonzavod group brings together recovery, demining and combat engineering functions on a single platform based on the T-90M tank.

The UBIM universal armored engineering machine, developed and produced by the Uralvagonzavod group (UVZ), part of the Russian state corporation Rostec, was officially adopted by the engineering troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, according to an announcement released this Wednesday, March 26.

According to Rostec, UBIM was designed to expand the operational capacity of engineering units by bringing together, on a single platform, functions that would normally be performed by different types of specialized vehicles. According to the company, the model combines characteristics of an armored repair and evacuation machine (BREM), an engineering mine clearance machine (IMR) and an armored mine clearance machine (BMR).

The state-owned company claims that the new equipment can be used in different battlefield scenarios, including the evacuation of damaged heavy vehicles, the removal of obstacles and the opening of passages in mined areas for the advance of troops.

In a statement, the industrial director of Rostec’s armaments cluster, Bekhan Ozdoyev, said that the adoption of UBIM reflects the Russian forces’ demand for engineering vehicles with greater mobility, protection and versatility. He also highlighted that Uralvagonzavod recently delivered other engineering assets to the Russian Ministry of Defense, such as demining vehicles and armored repair and evacuation machines. BREM-80.

UBIM was developed based on the tank T-90M Proryvone of the most modern armored platforms in service in Russia. According to the information released, the vehicle is equipped with a 1,130 horsepower engine, which guarantees high mobility on different types of terrain.

The vehicle’s crew is made up of five soldiers: a commander, a driver and three sappers, responsible for engineering and demining operations.

Rostec states that UBIM should reinforce the performance of Russian engineering troops in missions that require technical support, armored mobility and the ability to operate under combat conditions.
