Rain and falling temperatures remain in the South and Southeast; see forecast

by Marcelo Moreira

The umbrella promises to be a mandatory item in much of the country this Thursday (12). Instability takes over mainly the South and Southeast, with heavy rain at various times of the day, risk of disruption in vulnerable areas and a rare bonus for March: much cooler afternoons.

In the Southeast, rain appears early in the morning and returns several times throughout the day. In São Paulo (SP), the sky is heavy, with frequent showers that, in some periods, can be strong and accompanied by thunderstorms. With so much cloud, the temperature barely rises and the maximum is close to 24 °C.

The biggest alert goes to the coast of São Paulo. The circulation of winds from the ocean favors very heavy clouds, and cities such as Santos, Bertioga, Ilhabela, Caraguatatuba and Ubatuba can accumulate more than 120 millimeters of rain. This volume increases the risk of flooding, flooding and landslides in hillside areas, requiring extra attention from those who live on hills and valley bottoms.

In Rio de Janeiro (RJ), the weather also remains closed for much of the day. The forecast indicates rain in several periods and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, with a maximum around 25 °C.

In the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, accumulations can exceed 100 millimeters, increasing the risk of landslides. In the capital, volumes approach 60 millimeters, enough to cause flooding in the event of more concentrated rain.

Low temperature in March

In Belo Horizonte (MG), the day alternates periods of sun with rain showers, which gain strength mainly in the afternoon. The maximum is close to 25 °C, with a feeling of sultry weather before the showers.

In the South, humidity keeps the sky dark. In Curitiba (PR), the day is gray, with drizzle in the morning and stronger showers between the afternoon and night. The temperature varies from around 15°C to 22°C, one of the coolest afternoons in the country.

In Florianópolis (SC), clouds also predominate, with rain at various times and a maximum temperature close to 28 °C.

In Porto Alegre (RS), the sun appears between clouds at times, but the unstable atmosphere favors isolated showers, especially at the end of the day. The temperature can reach 29 °C.

Midwest with heat and storms

In the Midwest, the pattern is heat and late afternoon showers. In Campo Grande (MS), the sun appears between clouds in the morning, but the heavy clouds gain strength throughout the day. The showers increase during the afternoon and may be accompanied by thunderstorms, with a maximum of around 27 °C.

For those who are leaving home, the tip is to plan your trips, pay attention to areas with a history of flooding and not underestimate dark clouds: instability continues to rule the weather throughout the day.
