The pyrotechnic team was deployed after authorities received several reports of a pickup truck carrying “rockets” in the Tampa Bay area of Florida (USA).
According to a statement released by the Florida Highway Patrol, officers pulled over Ford Maverick carrying what appeared to be rockets after receiving several calls from concerned drivers on the interstate near Plant City.
Michael Nipperthe driver, allegedly told police he bought the rockets as a kit on a website and planned to use them at an event. He also assured the authorities that they did not contain any explosive material.
Nevertheless, the incident prompted the intervention of the pyrotechnic team, reports the station WESH. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Plant City Police Department and Plant City Fire Department also arrived at the scene to await the arrival of pyrotechnicians.
The objects were later determined to be plastic replicas used for events, and authorities confirmed they posed no threat to the public. The driver was able to continue driving after receiving instructions on how to transport these items in the future to avoid another alarm.
