Additional certification campaign was carried out in the Arkhangelsk region and evaluated the aircraft’s performance in real conditions of natural icing.

A OAKa Russian aircraft manufacturer, has completed additional certification testing program for MS-21, SJ-100 and Il-114 aircraft in natural ice conditions in northern Russia. The campaign was carried out in the Arkhangelsk region, with flights over the White Sea coast, the Kola Peninsula and the Naryan-Mar area.

According to Rostec, the tests were conducted based on data from the meteorological service. During the missions, the crews located clouds with potential for ice formation and entered these areas to monitor, with the help of special equipment, the accumulation of ice on the surfaces of the aircraft.

After reaching the required thickness, the planes were taken to altitudes where their behavior in real natural ice conditions could be evaluated. Among the parameters analyzed were stability, maneuverability and the functioning of on-board systems.
