Moraes decides to transfer the person responsible for Marielle’s death to a prison

by Marcelo Moreira

Domingos Brazão, convicted of ordering the death of Marielle Franco, will be transferred to a common prison. The decision by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, meets the defense request of the counselor at the Court of Auditors of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

Brazão is currently imprisoned at the Federal Penitentiary of Porto Velho (RO), and will be sent to the Pedrolino Werling de Oliveira prison, which makes up the Gericinó Penitentiary Complex, in Rio de Janeiro. The determination says that the transfer must be immediate.

In February, the First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court unanimously decided to convict the brothers Chiquinho Brazão and Domingos Brazão for planning and ordering the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, in March 2018, in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the decision, the Brazão must also lose their public positions after the conviction becomes final, that is, after the end of the possibility of appeals.
