Opposition leader María Corina Machado will return to Venezuela “in the next few days”, according to a statement from her party, Vente Venezuela (VV), released this Saturday (28). María Corina, who left the country in December last year to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, did not specify the date of her return.
“We are going to organize ourselves because a change is about to happen in Venezuela. We are going to organize ourselves for the arrival of María Corina Machado, who should be in the country soon”, stated Henry Alviárez, VV’s national organization coordinator, during the reopening of ‘El Bejucal’, at the party’s headquarters in Caracas.
Alviárez called on VV activists and supporters to prepare and organize themselves to await Machado’s arrival. “María Corina will visit Venezuela in the coming days, introduce herself and seek to fully exercise her rights as a citizen”, insisted the leader, without specifying a date for her return.
Furthermore, Alviárez considered the calling of elections “urgent”, as he considered there to be an “absolute lack” of presidency, a position temporarily occupied by Delcy Rodríguez after the arrest of Nicolás Maduro by American forces during the military attack that took place on January 3.
In another statement, the coordinator assured that, with political willingness, it is possible to change the country’s institutional structure to organize elections before the end of the year, and argued that all political parties can participate so that the population can vote freely. “We have to open up to everyone, we all hope to meet again after a comfort, respecting the majority of cities”, he added.
At the beginning of March, Alviárez announced that María Corina Machado would travel to the country to finalize her arrival, but without specifying the dates, and she herself stated in a video posted on social media that she would travel to Venezuela “in a few weeks”.
