A man is facing criminal charges with a possible prison sentence after his 12-year-old son ran a red light and had an accident while riding an electric motorcycle in the city of Yorba Linda, California (USA).

According to the channel KTLA became Richard John Eyssallennethe boy’s father, was charged with endangering a minor and also received a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison.

According to the medium’s report, the boy received an electric motorcycle Ballet as a gift the previous Christmas, but he had previously been in trouble with the police for illegal driving before the accident in question, which took place midway through last year.

The electric motorcycle was reportedly previously seized and both the boy and his father were required to attend a safety briefing organized by the Yorba Linda Police Department.

Apparently neither of them paid much attention to the briefing. The accident occurred several months later when the boy ran a red light and crashed into a car, leading to “a concussion, intracranial hemorrhage, a skull fracture, a broken wrist and a broken femur.”

It is also important to note that under state law the boy should not have been riding the motorcycle on public roads in the first place, as the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle license in California is 16.

All this led to the boy’s father being charged with these crimes. The accident could have been much worse. Ultimately, it is the parents’ responsibility to keep their child safe and off the road.
