An Oscars 2026 Tie? Breaking Down the Rare Win in the Best Live Action Short Film Category

One piece of history after another was made at the 2026 Oscars.

This year’s March 15 Academy Awards were filled with historic wins during the Conan O’Brien-hosted ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, solidifying the award show as one that will be remembered for years to come. (See all the winners here.)

Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley made history as the first Irish actress to win Best Actress in a Leading Role, while WeaponsAmy Madigan broke the record for longest gap between her first nomination—Twice in a Lifetime in 1986—and first win this year for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

In a historic first, SinnersAutumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman and Black cinematographer to win the award for Best Cinematography.

Meanwhile, KPop Demon Hunter’s “Golden” was officially the first Kpop song to win Best Original Song and Sentimental Value marked Norway’s first win in the Best International Film category.
