The measure reduces risks in sudden braking or collisions. But there are situations in which even compliance with the protocol does not prevent accidents — as in the case of the Air Canada flight attendant, who had her seat thrown after colliding with a truck. 📱Download the g1 app to see news in real time and for free The accident happened on Sunday night (23), when the aircraft, which had departed from Montreal, hit a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport, in New York. Commissioner Solange Tremblay was sitting in the so-called jump seat — a retractable seat used by the crew — at the moment of impact. According to family members, she was thrown along with the bench more than 90 meters from the plane, but survived with a non-life-threatening leg fracture. According to air safety experts, the type of seat may have been decisive for survival. The equipment is designed to withstand more intense impacts and has a four-point seat belt, different from those used by passengers. “It is an extremely robust seat, designed to protect the flight attendant and allow him to help with the evacuation after an accident,” said former federal investigator Jeff Guzzetti in an interview with AFP. In an interview with Canadian broadcaster TVA Nouvelles, the flight attendant’s daughter said that her mother was found still strapped to the seat after the accident. “It’s a true miracle. It could have been much worse,” he said. After the accident, an air traffic controller admitted an error. The causes of the collision are investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The body’s president, Jennifer Homendy, stated that the case must involve a combination of failures and that it is still too early to pinpoint responsibility.
