The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday (3) that Israeli fighter planes bombed a “secret” nuclear facility located on the outskirts of Tehran, Iran, where scientists were said to be working on developing an essential component for nuclear weapons. According to a statement released by the Israeli military, the complex, identified as “Minzadehei”, was hit after being monitored by intelligence services.
According to the IDF, the site operated as a clandestine underground complex used by a group of scientists involved in the development of technologies linked to the Iranian nuclear program. In a statement, the Army stated that the attack eliminated “a key component of the Iranian regime’s ability to develop nuclear weapons.”
“The regime moved some of these nuclear activities to secret bomb shelters, assuming we wouldn’t detect them. They were mistaken,” Israeli military spokesman Nadav Shoshani told international media.
The IDF also said the facility was located after tracking Iranian scientists involved in the country’s nuclear program. According to the Israeli military, the information obtained through intelligence made it possible to identify the new location where part of the weapons development activities would be carried out.
Israeli authorities assess that Iran has intensified efforts to advance its nuclear program after the end of the so-called 12-day war, which occurred in June last year. On that occasion, Israel carried out attacks, together with the US, against several Iranian nuclear installations, including complexes in Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan.
According to the IDF, since the start of the current war, the Israeli Army has also increased attacks against Iran’s ballistic missile program. According to data released by the military, around 300 Iranian missile launchers have been destroyed so far in air operations carried out on Iranian territory.
