Nine people died after an Iranian missile hit Beit Shemesh, in central Israel, west of Jerusalem. The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service confirmed the number in the most recent update released this Sunday (1st).
“In the Beit Shemesh area, MDA paramedics and medical teams declared nine victims dead,” the organization said in an official statement.
Rescue teams found extensive destruction at the impact site. “Upon arrival, we saw considerable damage and residents already evacuated from the building. We provided care to several victims, including a 10-year-old girl in serious condition, as well as those injured with different levels of injuries,” said Yosef Laufer, MDA technician.
Another 28 people were injured. Two are in serious condition, two have moderate injuries and 24 suffered minor injuries. A 4-year-old boy, also in serious condition, received treatment at the Shaare Zedek medical complex in Jerusalem.
Israeli police reported that the direct impact caused the collapse of a building where civilians were housed. According to the corporation, rescue teams continue to search for possible victims under the rubble. The United Hatzalah emergency service reported damage to eight buildings in the region.
The attack on Beit Shemesh occurred about 30 kilometers from Jerusalem and represents the closest impact to the city to leave victims, even compared to the twelve-day war recorded in June 2025.
Warhead neutralized near Jerusalem’s old city
This Sunday, police confirmed that the warhead of an Iranian missile fell on Saturday in a park near the Jaffa Gate, in the old city of Jerusalem. The area often hosts concerts and film screenings.
“The warhead was neutralized and handled safely by the bomb disposal squads of the Jerusalem District, who transferred it for laboratory analysis,” the corporation said.
The Israel Defense Forces said the latest wave of Iranian projectiles caused “multiple impact sites simultaneously.” According to the military, extensive search and rescue operations are still underway in different parts of the country.
The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, said this Sunday (1st) that the country will retaliate against the United States and Israel for killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “They burned the hearts of the Iranian people. We, in response, will burn their hearts,” Larijani said.
