Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, speaks during a press conference in Istanbul, on June 22, 2025. Ozan Kose/AFP Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said this Monday (2) on state TV that the murder of Ali Khamenei was a “religious crime” and promised serious consequences, according to Reuters. The statement was made two days after the joint US and Israeli attack that killed Iran’s supreme leader on Saturday (28). Abbas Araghchi also said the US betrayed diplomacy by attacking Iran in the midst of nuclear arms negotiations. He further stated that, even with Iranian attacks on neighboring countries, Tehran is not at war with them. Exchange of threats Earlier, in Iranian state media, the Quds Force, an elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, stated that the “enemies who killed” Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei will not be safe “not even at home.” The threat was linked shortly after United States President Donald Trump assured that he was confident in the country’s victory in its offensive against Tehran in a speech in Washington. The Revolutionary Guard also announced that it was launching another wave of attacks using new missiles, and reported that it had hit the Athen Nova oil tanker with drones in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil export routes.
