War in the Middle East: attacks target essential infrastructure in the region Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, declared that talking or negotiating with the US is no longer on the agenda and that war is a “failure”. He added that the US and Israel did not have a goal in mind and so “were launching indiscriminate attacks on residential areas.” “By attacking Iran’s energy infrastructure, they caused oil prices to soar,” he said. “I don’t see any reasonable objective that they are following. They failed to achieve their objectives in the beginning and now, after 10 days, I think they are directionless,” said the minister. However, Araghchi said there would be no talks or negotiations with the US after “a very bitter experience” during previous rounds of nuclear talks. “They promised us that they had no intention of attacking us and that they wanted to resolve the Iran nuclear issue peacefully and find a negotiated solution,” Araghchi said. “Still, they decided to attack us.” “I don’t think the issue of talking to the Americans… will come up again.” Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, speaks during a press conference in Istanbul, on June 22, 2025. Ozan Kose/AFP No ceasefire This Monday (9), Donald Trump and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps disagreed over the end of the war. The American president had said that conflicts would end ‘soon’, but Iran countered by saying that this will be determined by Tehran. Trump then made a new statement, saying he would attack Iran “twenty times harder” if the country blocked the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian government has ruled out the possibility of a ceasefire in the conflict with Israel and the United States. At a press conference, spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that “it makes no sense to talk about anything other than defense and retaliation against enemies.” Baghaei also accused the US of being after Iranian oil. According to him, “there is no doubt” that Washington seeks the country’s oil resources and tries to weaken and divide it. Iranian state media then reported that the Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force will increase the intensity and frequency of missile launches. Commander Majid Mousavi stated that, from now on, no missiles will be launched with warheads weighing less than one ton. New attacks were recorded throughout the day. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Iran launched missiles against Israeli territory and advised the population to seek shelter. On the other hand, according to the IDF, the Israeli military attacked six Iranian air bases and destroyed several Revolutionary Guard aircraft.
