Iran has launched a recruitment plan for security roles that allows children as young as 12 to participate, amid the ongoing war with the US and Israel.
“We have received a large number of applications from teenagers and young adults interested in participating in these activities and, considering the age of the candidates, we have set the minimum age at 12 years old,” said Rahim Nadali, deputy commander of the Mohammad Rasoulollah Corps, a strategic military unit of the Revolutionary Guard focused on Tehran’s security.
In an interview with state television, Nadali said the recruits’ duties will focus on patrolling the capital and gathering intelligence.
Since the start of the conflict on February 28, Iran has established checkpoints in various parts of Tehran and other cities in the country to maintain security and has also carried out several operations in which it has detained thousands of people, accused of supporting opposition groups in exile or collaborating with Israel and the US.
This Thursday, Iran reported the capture of 14 individuals accused of planning attacks and spying on state facilities.
