Iran puts message of thanks to Sánchez on missile

by Marcelo Moreira

The Iranian news agency Tasnim, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and the local agency Mehr published on Sunday night (22) an image of a sticker with the photo of the president of the government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, along with a message of thanks affixed to a supposed missile that would be aimed at Israel.

The sticker says in English: “It is clear that this war is not only illegal, but also inhumane. Thank you, Prime Minister.”

The phrase about the “illegal” war was said by Sánchez in a speech this month. Due to the Spanish Prime Minister’s refusal to allow the US to use the Morón and Rota bases for the war against Iran, American President Donald Trump threatened to cut off trade with the European country.

The image, shared on the Telegram accounts of the two Iranian agencies yesterday, was accompanied by the message: “Inscriptions on missiles that will soon be fired at the occupied territories.”

Mehr also showed a video that depicts the moment the sticker was affixed to the alleged missile.

The agencies, without providing further details, published a second image with a message of thanks to participants in a protest in London who mobilized against what they described as “war crimes” in Iran.

“Thank you to everyone who expressed their solidarity in London regarding Trump’s war crimes in Iran,” the second sticker reads.

In a post on X, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs charged Sánchez for the image with the sticker.

“Iran’s Ayatollah regime is thanking you by stamping your words on the missiles it fires at civilians in Israel and the Arab world. How does it feel knowing that your face and words are on those missiles? Remember that Europe – including Spain – is within range of these missiles,” the ministry wrote. The Prime Minister has not yet commented on the matter.

Sánchez, of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), is one of the most critical Western leaders of Israel.

Before his criticism of the US and Israeli action against Iran, he called the Israeli offensive against the Hamas terrorist group in the Gaza Strip a “genocide”, recognized the Palestinian State and joined the case that South Africa filed against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), among other measures.
