A freight train derailed on Thursday (19) in San Francisco de los Romo, in the state of Aguascalientes. Around 24 of the 85 carriages derailed, and at least one person died. Seven people, all migrants, were injured.
According to the authorities, one of the injured was from El Salvador and the others from Honduras. The nationality of the person who died in the accident is unknown.
The video shows the moment the locomotive derails, kicks up dust and collides with an incline.
The train belonged to Ferromex, the largest rail freight company in Mexico. The state coordinator for civil protection, Eduardo Muño, said Ferromex needs to clear the area and determine if there have been more fires.
The authorities believe that lack of maintenance or inadequate conditions on the rails in this section may have caused the derailment. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
