A freight train derailed on Thursday (19th) in San Francisco de los Romo, in the state of Aguascalientes. About 24 of the 85 cars went off the tracks and at least one person died. Seven people, all migrants, were injured.
According to authorities, one of the injured was from El Salvador and the others from Honduras. The nationality of the person who died in the accident is not known.
The video shows the moment the locomotive derails, kicking up dust and crashing into an embankment.
The train belonged to Ferromex, Mexico’s largest freight rail company. State Civil Protection coordinator Eduardo Muño said Ferromex must clean up the area and determine whether there were other fires.
Authorities believe that the lack of adequate track conditions on the stretch may have caused the derailment. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
