The death reportedly occurred in an Israeli-American airstrike that hit Ahmadinejad’s residence in Narnak, northeast of Tehran, the pro-regime outlet said.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is known as a hard-line conservative, populist and a central figure in international controversies. He gained prominence for questioning the Holocaust, advocating the elimination of Israel, advancing Iran’s nuclear program and facing economic sanctions, in addition to repressing protests after his re-election in 2009. The demonstrations became known as the Green Movement, which alleged that Ahmadinejad’s re-election was fraudulent.
