The case occurred in the west of the capital at around 1 am local time, and provoked a large police mobilization, investigators reported. It is not yet clear what caused the explosion or who may have been involved. The Oslo police department said in a statement that it was investigating the circumstances of the case. “The police are in dialogue with the embassy and there are no reports of injuries,” the statement said. Witnesses told Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang that smoke could be seen rising from the area around the embassy complex. The United States embassy did not immediately respond to a reporter’s request for comment made outside normal business hours.
