The summons of banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, to give testimony at the INSS CPMI must be analyzed by the Second Panel of the Federal Supreme Court. The decision on the topic may define whether the businessman’s presence on the commission will be mandatory or optional.
The announcement was made by the president of CPMI, senator Carlos Viana, after a meeting held this Wednesday (11) with minister André Mendonça, from the STF. In a previous decision, Mendonça had determined that Vorcaro’s appearance at Congress would be optional, which prompted a reaction from members of the commission.
Behind the scenes, the CPMI leadership has demonstrated dissatisfaction with what they consider to be interference by the Judiciary in the collegiate’s work. Parliamentarians also criticize decisions by Minister Flávio Dino, who suspended breaches of confidentiality related to investigations involving Banco Master.
During the meeting, the commission’s access to new evidence gathered by the Federal Police was also discussed. Parliamentarians are concerned about the deadline for completing CPMI’s work. Even if there is an extension, there is a regulatory limit for the conclusion of investigations.
According to members of the commission, technical analyzes of equipment seized by the Federal Police can take months to complete. Therefore, parliamentarians seek to ensure the sharing of information already available to speed up the progress of investigations.
The sending of documents and data was also authorized by the Federal Court of Auditors to the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee. The recommendation is that shared materials receive a watermark to prevent leaks and ensure control over the information used in investigations.
