British Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets have shot down an unmanned aerial system and intercepted a drone during night defensive operations in the Middle East.
According to a British Ministry of Defense press release issued last Monday (9), a Typhoon aircraft attacked an unmanned aerial system while it was deployed to defend Jordan. Another drone that was on its way to Bahrain was also intercepted.
“During the night, RAF Typhoon jets successfully shot down an unmanned aviation system defending Jordan and intercepted a drone moving towards Bahrain,” the ministry statement said.
The interceptions came after the UK expanded its defensive air operations across the region. British aircraft began defensive missions in support of the United Arab Emirates as part of broader efforts to strengthen regional air defenses after the start of the war in Iran.
In support of these operations, the United Kingdom deployed additional air operations specialists to the Gulf region. These personnel work to maintain an accurate air situation picture across the region and support partner nations in airspace management.
