The UN Human Rights Council approved a resolution jointly initiated by Russia (which is not part of the council) and Uganda (which represented the Non-Aligned Movement), calling for an end to unilateral measures that violate international humanitarian law and the Charter of the United Nations.
According to the proposal, these coercive actions prevent the full enjoyment of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and create obstacles in commercial relations between States. Russia, one of the countries that created the document, has been carrying out an invasion of Ukraine for four years and is the target of Western sanctions.
In total, 28 countries voted in favor of the document presented by the Russian regime, including Brazil, Colombia and China. Another 17, including France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, voted against the resolution.
