The demonstration with the AH-64E helicopter and the Altius 700 launched effect reinforces the U.S. strategy to extend tactical reach, reconnaissance and electronic warfare through solutions integrated with the existing fleet.

The United States Army has carried out a test that marks a new stage in its combat aviation modernization program. On February 26, a helicopter AH-64E Apache successfully launched an unmanned system A700in an experimental demonstration which highlighted the force’s ability to quickly integrate new operational capabilities onto platforms already in service.

According to the Army, the project was developed in less than six months, from the definition of requirements to the practical demonstration of the solution. The initiative began at the end of summer 2025 with the aim of enabling the employment of Launched Effects (family of launchable unmanned systems) from the Apache, constituting an accelerated response to an emerging operational demand.

The effort gained additional significance because it was carried out despite administrative obstacles, including the 43-day shutdown of the United States government during the development, manufacturing and installation phases. Despite this, the team involved managed to deliver a functional solution before the end of February.

The integration was made possible thanks to coordination between different structures of the American Army and industrial partners. Teams from the US Army Transformation and Training Command, Futures and Concepts Command, US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, Capability Program Executive Aviation, as well as partner companies within the framework of the Portfolio Acquisition Executive Maneuver Air structure participated in the project.

According to the official assessment, the introduction of Launched Effects on Army Aviation platforms could have a direct impact on tactical combat capability. The concept was designed to reduce gaps in reconnaissance and surveillance, while extending the reach of kinetic capabilities, electronic warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
