A freight train derailed in San Francisco de los Romo, Aguascalientes, on Thursday (19). About 24 of the 85 cars derailed, killing at least one person. Seven people, all migrants, were injured.
According to the authorities, one of the injured is from El Salvador and the others from Honduras. The nationality of the person who died in the accident is unknown.
The video shows the moment the locomotive derails, kicks up dust, and then crashes into an embankment.
The train was owned by Ferromex, Mexico’s largest rail freight company. State civil protection coordinator Eduardo Muño said Ferromex needed to clear the area and determine if there was another fire.
The authorities believe that the poor condition of the track on this section may have caused the derailment. The accident is under investigation.
