During the Munich Security Conference, held this Saturday (14), the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that he is ready for a new election in the country. Since the war between Russia and Ukraine began, the country has lived under so-called martial law, which explicitly prohibits the holding of national elections (presidential and parliamentary) while it is in force.
However, in a context of international pressure and possible peace negotiations, Zelensky declared, in February 2026, that he would be willing to organize elections if there were security guarantees and a ceasefire with Russia.
The ceasefire is something sought incessantly by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who is negotiating the agreement with both countries.
Finally, Zelensky provoked Russia, stating that he could sign the ceasefire if President Vladimir Putin also called new elections.
