See the videos that are trending on g1 According to the Secret Service, he was “seen at the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a gallon of gas.” The incident occurred at 1:30 am on Sunday morning. The suspect, who was from North Carolina, was reported missing a few days ago by his family. Investigators believe he headed south from North Carolina, picking up a shotgun along the way, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. The gun case was found in his vehicle, Guglielmi said. The man drove through Mar-a-Lago’s north gate as another vehicle left and was approached by Secret Service agents. The agents confronted the armed man and he was shot dead. Investigators are working to establish a psychological profile and the motivation is still being investigated. He was shot by Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy, the agency said. Threats and attack Trump had previously faced death threats. He was injured during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. On September 15, 2024, a man armed with a rifle was captured after waiting near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach while the president played. He was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month. The incident comes at a time when the US has been rocked several times in recent years by political violence. Last year alone, the country experienced the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the murder of the Democratic leader of the Minnesota House of Representatives and her husband, the attack on another congressman and his wife, and an arson attack on the official residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Saturday’s raid on Trump’s Florida home occurred just miles from his West Palm Beach golf club, where a man attempted to assassinate Trump while he was playing golf during the 2024 election campaign. A Secret Service agent spotted the man, Ryan Routh, pointing a rifle through the vegetation before Trump came into view. Authorities said Routh pointed the rifle at the officer, who opened fire, causing Routh to drop the weapon. Routh was found guilty last year and sentenced this month to life in prison. That incident occurred months after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The shooter fired eight shots, with one bullet grazing Trump’s ear, before being shot down by a Secret Service sniper. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
