The US carried out a new attack against a vessel allegedly operated by drug trafficking organizations in international waters in the Pacific, this Thursday, near Colombia.
The military operation resulted in the death of two crew members, according to information from the Southern Command of the American Armed Forces, which released a video of the action and identified the boat as part of narco-terrorist activities.
The US has carried out more than 100 attacks since August 2025 against vessels investigated for involvement in drug trafficking, as part of a campaign called Operation Southern Spear which, according to Donald Trump’s government, aims to combat narco-terrorism routes in the Americas.
The new operation in the Pacific comes days after the official visit of the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to the White House, where he met with his American counterpart to discuss topics of bilateral interest.
Last week, Trump declared during a press conference that the Colombian president “changed his stance” after the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro on January 3, showing himself to be “friendlier” with the US.
