US and Europe talk about unity after tensions

Americans and Europeans defend unity at security conference After months of disagreements, the governments of the United States and Europe spoke, this Saturday (14), of unity. It was at the Security Conference in Munich. The United States arrived at this year’s conference on a softer note. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke of unity. But he also demanded from allies a reinforcement in defense, borders, and attention to rivals who – according to him – fill their pockets with investment in oil. The head of the European bloc admitted that the continent received a “reality check” in 2025. But she said she reacted with an increase in defense spending. The British Prime Minister said he will send a group of aircraft carriers to the North Atlantic and the Arctic, in partnership with NATO. Regarding the war in Ukraine, President Volodymir Zelensky stated that negotiations have focused on concessions only on the Ukrainian side. And it would be an illusion to imagine that handing over territories to Russia will end the conflict. In yet another move against Russia, the British government stated at the conference that the Kremlin is responsible for the death of Alexei Navalny. He was the best-known opposition leader to Vladimir Putin’s government. He died in a penal colony in 2024. Yvette Cooper, British foreign minister, said that Navalny was killed with a poison found in frogs in South America. The joint statement with Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands says that Navalny’s tests “confirmed the presence of epibatidine.” And that “Russia had the means, the motive and the opportunity to administer this poison.” The Russian government said Navalny died of natural causes.
