Unemployment rate in Brazil in 2025 is 5.6%

The unemployment rate in Brazil in 2025 is 5.6%, a drop of one percentage point compared to the result in 2024, when it was 6.6%. Data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey were released by IBGE this Friday (20).

During the year, the highest rates were recorded in Piauí, at 9.3%, and Bahia and Pernambuco, both with 8.7% unemployment. The smallest were Mato Grosso, with 2.2%, Santa Catarina, with 2.3%, and Mato Grosso do Sul, with 3%. Twenty of the twenty-seven units of the federation reached the lowest annual unemployment rate in the historical series of the survey. The value of the usual real income from all jobs reached R$3,560 in 2025.

IBGE also released the cutoff for the last quarter of 2025, when the unemployment rate fell 1.1 percentage points compared to the previous three months. The rate was 5.1%, compared to 5.6% in the previous period.
