The Ukrainian Air Force has begun using French Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets in ground attack missions against Russian military positions.

The information was published by the Telegram channel “Sunflower”, which is associated with Ukrainian military aviation. A video was also shared there which, according to the company, shows the aircraft’s first combat use in an offensive role at the front.

The images show the release of two high-precision rockets AASM Hammer-Guided bombs on a ground target in a sector of the front.

So far, those delivered to Ukraine have been Mirage 2000 According to previous official communications, it was mainly used in air defense missions to intercept Russian cruise missiles and drones.

Change of deployment profile

The release marks the first publicly available video footage of an air-to-ground attack carried out by a Ukrainian-operated Mirage 2000.

With the introduction of the AASM Hammer bombs, the range of applications of the platform is expanding, which can now also be used as a precision attack aircraft against fortified ground targets or logistical concentrations.

In addition to the guided bombs, the Ukrainian Mirage 2000s are equipped with French MBDA MICA and Matra Magic II air-to-air missiles, further strengthening their ability to secure their own airspace.

Supplies and training

It was recently confirmed that Ukraine is scheduled to receive two more aircraft from France by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

These aircraft complement the three aircraft delivered last year. However, one of them was lost in the summer, meaning at least four fighter jets are expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

The handover of the new aircraft will be accompanied by an expanded training program for pilots and maintenance personnel. Three Ukrainian pilots are currently completing their training in France to operate the Mirage 2000.

With the increasing number of aircraft and the integration of precision-guided munitions, the Mirage 2000 is expected to assume a more versatile role within the Ukrainian Air Force structure, combining air defense with precision strike capabilities on the battlefield.
