The Ukrainian Air Force has begun employing French Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets in ground-attack missions against Russian force positions.

The information was released by the Telegram channel “Sunflower,” associated with Ukrainian aviation, which also published a video it claims shows the aircraft’s first combat action in an offensive role on the front line.

The footage shows the launch of two high-precision AASM Hammer guided bombs against a ground target in one of the frontline sectors.

Until now, according to previous official statements, the Mirage 2000 jets transferred to Ukraine had been used primarily in air defense missions, intercepting Russian cruise missiles and drones.

“We thank France for its continued support to our army, as well as for modern and high-quality weapons,” the channel wrote in its post.

Shift in Operational Profile

The release marks the first publicly available video recording of an air-to-ground strike carried out by a Mirage 2000 operated by Ukraine.

The introduction of AASM Hammer bombs expands the platform’s operational spectrum, enabling it to serve as a precision-strike asset against fortified ground targets or logistical concentrations.

In addition to guided bombs, Ukrainian Mirage 2000 jets are equipped with French MBDA MICA and Matra Magic II air-to-air missiles for engaging aerial targets, strengthening the country’s airspace defense capabilities.

Deliveries and Training

It was recently confirmed that Ukraine is expected to receive two additional aircraft from France by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

These units will add to the three delivered last year. However, one of them was lost during the summer, which should bring the operational total to at least four fighters by the end of 2026.

The transfer of the new aircraft is being accompanied by an expanded training program for pilots and maintenance crews. Currently, three Ukrainian pilots are undergoing instruction in France to operate the Mirage 2000.

With the increase in aircraft numbers and the integration of precision-guided munitions, the Mirage 2000 is expected to assume a more versatile role within the structure of the Ukrainian Air Force, combining air defense with surgical strike capability on the battlefield.
