Ukraine announced the development of a new air defense system Shershen, a multi-caliber platform designed to operate with different types of missiles.

specialized media Militarnyi According to the report, the equipment has already been tested on five different models, including Soviet-era weapons, foreign versions, and a Ukrainian project currently under development.
The project is being led by companies associated with the Association of Defense Industries of Ukraine (NAUDI) in cooperation with companies responsible for the integration of guidance systems, controls, radars and launchers. The main purpose is to allow the use of missiles of different calibers with one launcher, increasing the military’s operational flexibility.
Among the weapons tested were two R-27 missiles, known to NATO as the AA-10 Alamo. These were originally developed as air-to-air missiles and later modified for ground-based air defense. Images released show a launcher carrying the ammunition, demonstrating the system’s ability to integrate existing weapons into new projects.
The effort comes amid a missile shortage facing Ukraine due to massive Russian airstrikes. Current systems rely on specific sources, leaving some launchers inoperable due to a lack of compatible ammunition. With Shershen, Kiew aims to reduce this dependence, diversify supply sources and expand available reserves to respond to continued bombing.
