Ukraine announced the development of a new air defense system Shershen, a multi-caliber platform designed to operate with a variety of missile types.

professional media MilitarnyiAccording to , the equipment has already been tested in five different models, including Soviet-era weapons, foreign versions, and a Ukrainian project currently under development.
The project is led by a company affiliated with the National Association of Defense Industries of Ukraine (NAUDI) and is being carried out in cooperation with several companies responsible for the integration of guidance systems, control units, radars and launchers. A key goal is to expand the Navy’s operational flexibility by allowing a single launcher to use missiles of different calibers.
Among the weapons tested were two R-27 missiles, known to NATO as AA-10 Alamo. This missile was originally developed as an air-to-air missile and was later modified for ground-based air defense. The released images show a launcher equipped with these munitions, demonstrating the system’s ability to integrate existing weapons into new projects.
This move was made at a time when Ukraine is experiencing a missile shortage due to large-scale Russian airstrikes. Because the current system relies on specific suppliers, some launchers are not operational due to a lack of compatible ammunition. With Shershen, Kiiwu is seeking to reduce this dependence, diversify its sources of supply, and expand its available inventory to respond to ongoing bombardment.
