Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade, subordinate to the 17th Corps, announced that it had carried out the first confirmed capture of a Russian kamikaze drone, the Klin, in the Orikhiv region.

The operation was carried out using a Ukrainian interceptor drone, marking a new chapter in the technological warfare taking place in the airspace of the conflict.

According to the Ukrainian military, the Klin is a Shahed-type device equipped with an artificial intelligence-based guidance system. The model uses a canard aerodynamic design with a forward horizontal stabilizer and was introduced by the Russian forces about four months ago.

The drone can operate autonomously, identify and attack targets at a distance of up to 120 kilometers using a signal repeater, and can also function as a kind of “aerial minefield”, remaining in a state of readiness for up to 80 minutes. With a maximum take-off weight of 13.5 kg, Klin reaches speeds between 108 and 300 km/h, flies at an altitude of up to 2 kilometers, and carries a 5 kg warhead, in shaped charge or high-explosive versions, with an aerial detonation system.

Previously published images suggest that some parts of the device, such as the optical module, were manufactured using 3D printing. In another recent case, Ukrainian forces also reported the destruction of a Russian Shtorm reconnaissance drone, about which little public information is available at this time.
