The 118th Independent Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine (subordinate to the 17th Corps) announced that it conducted the first confirmed interception of a Russian suicide drone Klin in the Olhiv region.
The operation, carried out using Ukrainian interceptor drones, marked a new phase of technological warfare in conflict-ridden airspace.
According to the Ukrainian military, the Klin is a Shahed-type aircraft equipped with a guidance system based on artificial intelligence. It uses a canard-type aerodynamic configuration with a horizontal stabilizer at the front, and is said to have been introduced by the Russian military about four months ago.
The drone can operate autonomously and with the assistance of relay aircraft, identify and attack targets up to 120 kilometers away, and can also stand by for up to 80 minutes and act as an “airborne minefield.” It has a maximum take-off weight of 13.5 kg, can fly at speeds of 108 to 300 km/h, and at altitudes of up to 2 km. It is equipped with a 5kg warhead, a choice of shaped or high explosive types, and is also equipped with an air detonation system.
Previously released images showed that some parts, such as the optical module, were manufactured using 3D printing. In another recent incident, the Ukrainian military also reported destroying a Russian-made Shtorm reconnaissance drone, although public information about the aircraft remains limited.
