The 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, named after the Hero of Ukraine Valerii Hudzi, began operating new domestically manufactured BTR-4E armored vehicles.
The vehicles were incorporated into the 3rd Mechanized Battalion, which is already carrying out intensive training to master the use of the equipment, considered essential to increase the unit’s mobility and firepower.
Images released by the brigade itself show driving exercises, firing with live ammunition and engaging targets in day and night operations. The vehicles arrive equipped with additional protective screens against hollow-charge ammunition, reinforcing survivability on the battlefield.
At the end of January, the 42nd Brigade was involved in the defense of the village of Novopavlivka, in the Dnipropetrovsk region. According to reports, enemy forces attempted a rapid advance using light vehicles, but were detected by reconnaissance drones. After around two hours of confrontation, the attack was repelled, with more than 40 opposing fighters killed.

Developed in the mid-2000s, the BTR-4 has been in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces since 2014. Designed to transport up to eight soldiers with fire support, the model has a 30 mm automatic cannon, grenade launcher and coaxial machine gun, as well as the possibility of integrating anti-tank missiles. Even in the face of large-scale war, Ukraine maintains national armored production.
