TSE holds public hearings to discuss rules on artificial intelligence in elections
The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) will hold, between Tuesday and Thursday, three public hearings to discuss the rules on the use of artificial intelligence in this year’s elections.
TSE resolutions are updated before each election. The current standard dates back to 2024, when the digital seal was created to label content produced with the help of artificial intelligence. At the time, the use of “deepfakes” in the electoral context was also prohibited — fake images and audio that appear to be real.
Last year alone, almost 300 cases of political use of artificial intelligence were recorded, with more than half of the posts consisting of attacks or criticisms of rivals. Among the main targets were President Lula and politicians from the Bolsonaro family.
The updated rules for the 2026 dispute will need to be approved by the TSE by March 5th. After the public hearings, the ministers will debate and vote on the resolutions proposed by the rapporteur and vice-president of the court, Kássio Nunes Marques.
