Cuba was a US-aligned dictatorship until 1958, commanded by Fulgencio Batista. Since the rise of Fidel Castro and, subsequently, the socialist regime on the island, the US has tried to overthrow the government in Havana. The CIA’s numerous attempts to assassinate Fidel are famous, as well as the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961.
