President Donald Trump once again criticized the US electoral system this weekend, claiming that the American elections are “rigged, stolen and a laughing stock around the world.”
In response to this, he proposed reform through the project Save America Act (Save America Act) and asked for the support of Congressional Republicans to pass it.
Trump listed three demands for changes to the electoral system in his profile on Truth Social: the first would be for all voters to present an identification document; second, voters must prove American citizenship; and third, he advocates the end of voting by mail, except in cases of illness, disability, military service or travel.
In recent days, the president had already defended the “nationalization” of American elections, a thesis that would remove the states’ authority over the electoral process and leave responsibility in the hands of the federal government. On the same occasion, he pointed out that his administration should supervise the midterm elections, also organized by the states.
The new appeal comes months before midterm elections, which are crucial to testing Trump’s influence. This vote will define the next two years of his administration.
The Republican leader’s legislative pressure also comes amid federal actions, including Attorney General Pam Bondi’s demands for voter lists and election-related investigations led by National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard.
