The President of the United States, Donald Trump, demanded this Friday (13) that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, accept an agreement with Russia to end the war and call new elections before the middle of this year.
“Russia wants to reach an agreement, and Zelensky will have to act,” said the American president in an interview at the White House. He added that the Ukrainian president “has to act or otherwise he will miss a great opportunity.”
According to information released by international vehicles, the Ukrainian elections should have been held between March and April 2024, but were postponed due to martial law in force since 2022, after the start of the Russian invasion. The Ukrainian government claims that, while the country is under attack, there are no security conditions to guarantee a fair election with full participation of the population. So far, no new date has been officially set.
Trump’s statements come just days before the fourth anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, on February 24, 2022.
