Tram derails in Milan, Italy, this Friday (27) PIERO CRUCIATTI / AFP A tram derailed and crashed into a building in Milan this Friday (27), killing two people and leaving around 39 injured. It is not yet known why the tram left the tracks near the city center, which is currently hosting Fashion Week. Several ambulances were seen at the scene, with firefighters wrapping shell-shocked passengers in gold thermal emergency blankets. “I just heard a huge bang,” 27-year-old Anna, who was in her office nearby when the accident happened, told AFP. “I saw that part of the tram had entered a store,” said Anna, who did not want to give her last name. Witnesses told the press at the scene that the tram was traveling at high speed. One of the passengers told the ANSA news agency: “I thought it was an earthquake.” “I was sitting and ended up on the floor, along with the other passengers. It was terrible,” said the passenger. The yellow and white tram could be seen crossing the street, just outside the historic center of Milan. Tram derails in Milan, Italy, this Friday (27) PIERO CRUCIATTI / AFP
