To promote the latest update of its famous pickup Hilux, Toyota Australia shared an advertisement showing several dogs “stacked” in the bed of the vehicle.

The commercial, published on December 10, 2025 on the YouTube channel of Toyota Australia, shows several dogs leaving their owners to chase the Hilux.

After a provocation towards pickups from other brands, including Ford Ranger e Mitsubishi Tritonat the end of the commercial the slogan appears: “Even dogs know that you don’t send a pickup to do one’s job Hilux.”

To reach the pickup, the animals are shown jumping into the bed while the vehicle is moving. This led to theAustralian Ad Standards Community Panel to receive several complaints.

According to the regulator, Toyota violated the safety code in the advertisement, as the way in which the transport of animals is shown is considered dangerous and even illegal.

Second Drive Australiain the country it is allowed to transport dogs in the bed of pickups, as long as they are adequately insured.

In response, the Japanese producer sent a report to the panel, revealing that the dogs participating in the filming were indeed tied to the dumpster, but this detail was removed via CGI in post-production.

Meanwhile, the portal Carscoops reported that the Japanese brand responded to the complaints by commenting that the commercial is deliberately exaggerated and is intended to show canine loyalty inspired by Hilux.

However, an order has already been issued so that Toyota modify the content of the commercial if you wish to continue broadcasting. Drive Australia shared this week that a brand representative confirmed plans to edit the commercial to comply with the country’s advertising policies.
