According to UK Defence Journal the decision involves the deployment of “two aircraft carriers and their escort ships in the region”, increasing US military weight at a time when regional governments have warned of the risk of escalation.

A source also described the measure as an attempt by the President of the United States Donald Trump to put further pressure on Iran to reach “a deal on its nuclear program”.

Ford was recently deployed to the Caribbean and reportedly took part in a US operation to arrest the president of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro.

With two US aircraft carriers now operating in or near the Arabian Sea, the US will be positioned to conduct long-range air operations, maritime security missions and deterrence patrols throughout the region as needed.
