A Su-30SM fighter plane from the Kazakh Air Force crashed during a training flight, the country’s Ministry of Defense says.
According to the official statement, the incident occurred during scheduled training activities. The crew managed to eject in time and survived the accident. No details have been given about the pilots’ health.
The Ministry of Defense announced that a special commission has been established to investigate the exact causes and circumstances of the accident. Military technicians and experts will analyze flight data, weather conditions and possible technical errors to clarify what happened.
Past events
This is not the first time this type of aircraft has been involved in an incident in the country. In 2021, another fighter plane from the Kazakh Air Force was involved in an accident, but even then the pilots managed to eject successfully.
In August 2024, Kazakhstan received a new delivery of six Su-30SM aircraft. The aircraft, with red tail numbers from “51” to “56”, were incorporated into the 602nd Air Base in Shymkent. The planes replaced older Soviet-made ones MiG-29-fighters that were taken out of service the previous year.

The Su-30SM is a two-seat multi-role fighter designed for air superiority and ground attack missions, and is currently one of the main platforms of Kazakhstan’s military air forces.
