The Sudanese military has announced the destruction of a Chinese FK-2000 air defense system operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Ed Dubeibat area of South Kordofan.

According to the military, the device was used to fight Sudanese Air Force aircraft, affecting air operations in the central and southern parts of the country.

According to the Sudanese command, the system was neutralized during recent fighting in the area. The FK-2000 was to be used by RSF units to disrupt the flights of transport aircraft and attack drones, increasing pressure on government forces in conflict airspace.

A system developed by the company China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation combines surface-to-air missiles and two 30mm autocannons mounted on an 8×8 vehicle. It can engage aerial targets at a range of 1.2 to 25 kilometers and uses radar and optical sensors for tracking and guidance, providing short- and medium-range air defense.

Military sources say the systems were to be supplied to RSF troops by the United Arab Emirates, with the shipping route going through Chad. The use of this type of advanced weaponry — including drones and imported anti-aircraft systems — points to the growing sophistication of the Sudanese conflict and reinforces international concerns about proliferation in the region.
